This is the latest film in the Jurassic Park franchise, after a 14 year hiatus. It’s been very popular, becoming the first film to gross over $500 million worldwide during it’s opening weekend. So is it any good?
The Parent’s View
The basic plot set up is that it’s twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park. There’s now a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, that’s been running for 10 years. However visitor numbers are declining, as people are bored of dinosaurs so a new attraction is created to re-spark visitors’ interest, which obviously goes horribly wrong!
Is it suitable for kids?
We took our 11 year daughter who coped fine. She’s seen the previous 3 films at home and we were a bit unsure how she would cope with dinos muching on people on the big screen. We chose the normal 2D showing not the 3D one, mainly because hubby isn’t a fan of 3D. I would say it’s on more or less the same level of gore and violence as the other films, with one exception.
There’s not any long suspenseful scenes that have you on the edge of your seat, it’s just action scene after action scene. There’s a few innuendos and sexual references but they are vague enough to go over kids heads. There’s no major swearing, just low level stuff..
So it depends on what your kids are like. We knew our 13 year old wouldn’t like it but then she didn’t like the original films either. The best thing would be to show them the trailer – it gives a good idea of of what the film is like.
The Kid’s View (11 year old girl)
It’s a thrilling adventure film. At some points I was slightly scared but it wasn’t too scary. My favourite bit was the fight with the raptors at the end. I didn’t like the part where they found all the dead dinosaurs. I think kids 11 and over would like this film.
